Eliminating Second Operations
….“You can do that on a Brown & Sharpe?”
The Problem:
Many parts we are asked to make have design features difficult
to make on a traditional Browne & Sharpe automatic screw
machine. These parts are often routed through a 2nd operation
or run on an expensive and less productive CNC machine.
The Solution:
Browne & Sharpe was faced with this dilemma many years
ago and developed a number of attachments to traditional machines
that would machine more features during initial production
(1st op), however, most shops were intimidated by the complexity
of these attachments and still choose to route product through
2nd operations. HK started a campaign to understand and apply
complex machine attachments which led to our ability to cross
drill, mill and pickup parts during the production cycle.
The Result:
Considerable cost savings are achieved by minimizing the
handling and routing of screw products. Parts can be made
with higher quality by relying on the predictability and reliability
of the automatic screw machine. HK can make more complex parts
using traditional equipment.
